Dr Ken Jennings

London County Director of Mentoring & International Psychologist and Transformational Leader

Dr Ken Jennings is a registered psychologist in private practice and the director of MIND IN SPORT, a sports and business consultancy.

He has a doctoral degree in performance and sports psychology and has consulted with international athletes and teams in a variety of sports over the past 15 years. He consulted with the South African Olympic team in their build-up to the Atlanta Olympic Games and from April 2000 to May 2001 he worked with the South African cricket team. While his achievements have been numerous, his ability to transform teams into winning combinations when tackling finals or during times of crisis has been remarkable. He helped Natal win the rugby Currie Cup for the first time in their history in 1990. This was followed by other Currie Cup victories in 1992 and 1995. In 1998 he consulted with the South African Bowls team that won 5 out of a possible 6 Commonwealth medals while during the crisis in South African cricket in April 2000, he helped the national cricket team beat Australia 2-1 in a one-day tournament.

Besides his consultations with teams, Ken has consulted with individual athletes such as professional golfers, tennis players, swimmers, jockeys and gymnasts; helping them win championships that they were participating in.

In contrast to his experiences in the competitive elite sports world, he has consulted on a number of award-winning television commercials that involve working with children in a playful, creative context.

Ken also has had experience in the industrial psychology field, where he was involved with management training, assessment centres and industrial relations. Utilising this experience, he links competitive sporting principles and healthy team functioning to the dynamics of business and the organisation of companies. In his work with business, he looks at the underlying principles and philosophies that underlie decision-making by management. Further, he focuses on integrating the diversity of perceptions that exist in a management team (hearing all voices and stories) so that a synergetic vision can be created and actioned.

He is the consultant to the educational services of the London Borough of Newham on mentoring in schools. He has also presented workshops in the U.S.A., England, Germany and Sweden. He is the author of two books Mind in sport: Directing energy flow into success, and Let’s talk sport…and life. In addition, he has written numerous articles on family therapy, sports enhancement and eastern philosophy.
