Royal Weddings

As William and Kate Middleton join in holy matrimony at Westminster Abbey, on today April 29th, it made me think about the same date seven years ago, when I launched London County Cricket Club, at The City of London Club on the very same date.

No major royal connection there, apart from for me, as another major milestone took place for me on another Royal Wedding date. In 1986, I made my debut in English First-Clas Cricket at The Oval, for Essex against Surrey, while up the road, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were exchanging wedding vows in front of a far bigger crowd than were present to witness my debut!

What a wonderful occasion today in London, and how superbly we, as a nation, respond to such great occasions. No country can do pomp and ceremony like we do..

England can be proud of itself and may the future Heir to the Throne and his new bride enjoy a wonderful life together.
