Sangakkara at Lord’s
Kumar Sangakkara played the innings of his life at Lord’s last night.
The former Sri Lankan Captain, and wicket-keeper, who now plays exclusively as a batsman in Test Cricket, chose the platform of MCC’s Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture, rather than the 22 yards in ‘the middle’ as his stage.
He displayed all the intelligence and articulacy of the legal profession he qualified in, and revealed a level of passion about Cricket, and life, which highlighted all his best human qualities. Cricket needs more men capable of such great performances to be in positions of authority, to ensure that the game is in the best possible hands.
For anyone interested in downloading his speech, it is available on www.lords.org
The speech is a great credit to the game, and serves notice to all administrators across the world to govern with greater responsibility and duty of care for the players, the followers, and the game itself.
