Monty’s Everest

Today is the scond anniversary of one of the most compelling pieces of Cricket I have ever seen.

England was on the verge of losing its sixth consecutive Test match to Australia when Monty Panesar walked out to join Jimmy Anderson at The Swalec Stadium in Cardiff. They trailed Australia six runs, with only one second innings wicket left after Australia had declared their first innings on 674.

Monty and Jimmy frustrated Ricky Ponting and his team for 11.3 overs, and turned the series around. England went to Lord’s and won, then secured the series at The Oval in the final match of another epic home series.

Monty has yet to play for England since that day, but his recent performances with Sussex suggest that he is back in contention to play against India this summer.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see Monty ‘high-fiving’ his England team-mates again as he cuts through the legendary Indian batting line up ? What price Sachin Tendulkar LBW Panesar again, just like Monty’s first Test wicket ?
