Quality Professional Coaching is an asset to every player’s development.
Insightful observation and interventions where and when appropriate, can help transform a player’s performance.
Dedication to mastering the basics is critical to a player’s long-term development before looking to build some of the more ‘funky’ skills executed by leading players on television.
Our belief is that experienced Professional Coaches who have accumulated a deep wisdom about the game from a lifetime at the game’s coalface, (and how best to impart it) are an invaluable resource for players (young and mature) to tap into. For those committed to pursuing a future in top-level cricket, access to quality guidance and professional support is both immeasurable and priceless.
We believe that people who have passed coaching qualification courses from National Governing Bodies have a role to play in developing cricketers, but there is no substitute for years of experience involved with top-level cricket to understand the nuances and requirements to become a top-class cricketer. Cricket has been blessed with some excellent coaches like Bob Woolmer, Duncan Fletcher, Jack Birkenshaw, Mickey Stewart, John Inverarity, Bob Simpson, Rod Marsh, Greg Chappell, John Wright and John Buchannan who have all (in their own way) been trailblazers for coaching. In the modern game, Gary Kirsten and Eric Simons have been inspired by Duncan Fletcher’s lead and are helping to develop India’s position as the number one ranked team in world cricket. Andy Flower has helped to transform an England team in chaos at New Year 2009 and turn them into a competitive and developing team with an Ashes victory under their belts in his first year as England Coach. All these men (in their different ways) have shown the value which can be added by experienced cricket people as coaches of the next generation of top players.
The challenge for emerging players is to enjoy access to the best coaches to gain an external perspective of how the player’s game is developing. Identifying strengths and weaknesses at an early stage and working smart to build further on the strengths as well as eliminating the weaknesses is key to improved performance over time.
It is our intention at London County to offer greater opportunities for people to benefit from access to experienced Professional Coaches. We believe in the power of sharing information. We want continue to support the professionals who have benefitted from our development programmes led by Neil Burns, and supported by individuals who enjoy a hard-earned ‘world-class’ reputation in cricket. Additionally, we at London County would like to open up more opportunities for talented young players to experience the benefits of enjoying a relationship with a Professional Coach who has experience of top-level cricket in order to help young players to develop the best possible foundation for future success in the game.
