Min Patel at Founder's Day 2005

London County Founder's Day 2005

Twenty/20 Match
The Nursery, Lord's Cricket Ground
July 2005

To commemorate our Founder's July birthday, the Four-Team Twenty/20 event provided 'all-round opportunity' for those selected in The Development Squad plus other recommended players to play alongside experience professionals and select Foundation Members on The Nursery at Lord's.

Foundation Members gave generously to the day by sharing aspects of their life experience on an informal basis with our aspiring cricketers. Their contribution added significantly to the essence of the day as did the presence of Patrick Eagar, the acclaimed cricket photographer whose exhibition adorned Lord's Cricket Ground that year.

The four teams were named after key people in the Club with an experienced professional as Captain. The teams were WG Grace's XI; CB Fry's XI; Ranjitsinhji's XI; The President's XI.

The two semi-finals were won by CB Fry's XI captained by former Nottinghamshire Captain Paul Johnson, and WG Grace's XI, which was led by former Leicestershire Captain Vince Wells.

The outstanding performance was by 16 year old Alex Hales who scored 55 off one over! The amazing hitting formed part of a wonderful century that won the match for his team including hitting Kent and England spinner Min Patel for 20 off the last over to complete a remarkable individual performance. The 55 off one over contained 6 sixes, three off no-balls which resulted in 3 extra runs plus 6,4,6 off the extra deliveries bowled: a truly remarkable world record.

The Final was won by CB Fry's XI with Gemaal Hussain making a dominant half-century for Captain Paul Johnson's victorious team.

The day concluded with an overview provided by David Fulton, Captain of Kent CCC, whose observations to all 44 players involved sharing their feedback with the group on their performances as well as providing excellent perspective on ways to move forward as players and people in the game.

An inspirational personal testimony was then given by one of our Foundation Members Lloyd Scott. Lloyd is a cricket fanatic whose career has seen him as a professional footballer, fireman and now charity fund-raiser following his remarkable recovery from leukeamia. Lloyd's fund-raising exploits have seen him run The London Marathon in a deep sea diver's suit and most recently cycle across Australia on a Penny Farthing!

The day offered everyone an opportunity for personal growth as well as providing the observing Professionals with a chance to view our 'prospects' in a competitive match environment involving all 3 cricketing disciplines.
