Twenty/20 Match
Denis Compton Oval, Shenley
24th July 2006
To celebrate our Founder Dr WG Grace, our special event comprised Twenty/20 Cricket and reflection on Leadership, led by Neil Burns and Dr Ken Jennings.
Our special guests included Middlesex batsman Nick Compton who opened the day with an excellent speech about his late grand-father, Denis Compton, who the ground is named after. England Selector Geoff Miller spoke later in the day highlighting to all aspiring cricketers his selection criteria for elite level Cricket.
Two former International sportsmen, who also share the distinction of coaching and playing at International Level, Phil Simmons and Glenn Hoddle, participated in the day with their sons playing alongside them. ‘Talented and Undiscovered Cricketers’ played alongside established names such as Paul Weekes, Frankie Griffiths and Chris Lewis in the two XIs named after two of London County’s most famous players: CB Fry and Ranjitsinhji.
Ranji’s XI were victorious on the day with Adrian Shankar and Paul Weekes seeing their team home with two balls to spare in the final match. Reflections were held throughout the day on Leadership and Team-Development.
