"It's all about quality"

by Neil Burns, Chief Executive London County Cricket Club

In 1899, WG Grace, the first icon of Cricket, founded London County Cricket Club (LCCC) to create greater opportunities for people who had the potential to be top-class in Cricket. The Club’s final First-Class Fixture took place in 1904, the same season that WG Grace scored his 126th and final First-Class Century (166 v MCC) on his 56th Birthday!

The Club’s first life ended soon after, but in April 2004 at The City of London Club, 100 years on from WG Grace’s 166, and with the very same aims he had in mind, I founded the re-formed LCCC. My vision is for us to be a mentoring organisation inspiring people to grace their field.

In September 2004 we celebrated our new life with a re-match of the London County versus MCC fixture in 1904. LCCC was led by the modern icon of Cricket, Sir Vivian Richards, who subsequently agreed to be our Honorary Club Captain.

WG Grace was a trailblazing Sportsman who became one of life’s great ‘all-rounders’ prominent in Cricket, Medicine, Athletics and Finance. The ‘all-round’ approach to life is a key element of our Leadership Workshops today, as we aim to develop more people with greater balance so they can experience the benefits of ‘all-round’ success.

LCCC Cricketing Hero, and former Australian world record-breaking Captain, Steve Waugh, said “Leadership is vital in a successful society”. With other International Leaders playing their part in our organisation, we aim to identify, inspire, educate and support others who want to be top-class in their field.

By sharing our LCCC Philosophy at Special Events and Workshops, we invite people from all walks of life to ‘drink from our well’ enabling them to be energised when they return to their own environment.

LCCC is a body of people who share a desire to help others understand and develop their human potential. Our Foundation Members are people who have enjoyed success in their field and have been invited to be part of our organisation. Their contribution to the development of LCCC is key to our ongoing success.

Our Coaching 4 R.E.S.U.L.T.S. ethos is about developing people in a balanced way by using 'The Performance Pyramid' concept developed in consultation with Dr Ken West. Our vision is to mentor the four Intelligences (4xI's) in balance. Once a solid base has been established, in the form of a strategic plan, the 'All-Round Development' of the individual can be accelerated.

Our Mentoring Process is designed to create greater opportunities for people to be nurtured and benefit from the value of others’ experience. It is led by International Sports Psychologist, Dr Ken Jennings, who is a Custodian of the LCCC Philosophy.
